Timberline Engineering is very happy to announce they have been selected to perform a communications study, design, and construction support for Placer County Water Agency in Auburn, California.
This project marks the resumption of a very successful relationship that began in 1999 and included two major projects and a series of studies and smaller projects over a nine-year period. In the summer of 1998 PCWA contracted with Timberline Engineering to study their SCADA system communication needs. This lead to the first of two projects, which resulted in the installation of communication towers as Sunset and Auburn water treatment plants (WTPs), the conversion of a number of PCWA sites from telephone to radio communications, and the installation of microwave radio links between Foothill, Sunset, and Auburn WTPs. After those projects, Timberline performed a series of studies and smaller projects including the I-80 Corridor Communications Study. All of Timberline's projects with PCWA were performed by the same Timberline team and managed by the same Timberline project manager; that same team will perform this upcoming project.
In 2007, PCWA saw the financial crisis growing and quickly moved to protect their ratepayers by suspending many of the capital improvement projects that were planned at the time. Unfortunately, that suspension halted Timberline's efforts on several projects for PCWA. Timberline hated to see such a successful relationship come to an end, and they looked forward to a time when work for PCWA could resume. Earlier in December, PCWA solicited proposals from Engineers interested in providing investigation, analysis, design, plan preparation, licensing, technical installation assistance, testing, and commissioning services for redundant communications into the hydroelectric power stations they operate. Timberline responded and was selected. Consequently, early in 2012, Timberline will kickoff the Communications Study for PCWA's Middle Fork American River Hydroelectric Project. It is expected that the study will lead to design and construction support of a project to implement communications improvements.
Timberline is very happy to resume our relationship with PCWA, and they look forward to great success together in the future.
